When Crooked River was asked to produce a 2-spot campaign built on the nostalgic memories of its characters, we knew there would be some fun problem solving ahead.
Casting talent to play the four different ages for each of the two leads was the first challenge. Both roles required special talents – baseball or guitar playing – in addition to the need to convincingly appear as if the main characters had been filmed at different stages of their early lives.
Multimedia camera formats – with 4:3 aspect ratios and video grain – were used to impart a vintage feel to the “oldest” footage. Elegant cutting between the various different eras was crucial in preserving the integrity of the concept and at imparting a flood of flashback memories which convincingly motivate the main characters to try again to quit their smoking habits.
